Wild Indigo by Sandi Ault

A new mystery author has emerged that is a cross between Nevada Barr and Tony Hillerman, Sandi Ault. Her character, Jamaica Wild, works for the Bureau of Land Management in New Mexico, and she arrives on the scene to witness a Tanoah Pueblo man being trampled to death by stampeding buffalo. She thinks this is not an accident and starts looking into it, only to get wrapped up in a world of tribal traditions and feisty curanderas. My favorite character in the book is Mountain, the wolf cub Jamaica adopted after its mother was killed; he causes all manner of mischief and amusement. I am eagerly awaiting the second book, Wild Inferno.
